Okay, hypothetically, if you're going on a mission to, say, catch a guilty whale. And while you were catching the whale, you saw something else that may be another whale, and you were like, "What?" But then you thought, "Maybe it's not a whale. Maybe it's a big fish. Maybe it's a submarine with a face painted on it." The point is, if I kill the first whale, am I technically a murderer? |

i…don’t see a problem?
I suppose it’s subjective. I guess I’m just thinking of last year during Iggy and the Stooges’ set, where there were a bunch of sweat factories around me with no shirts but also like a million elbows and I couldn’t move because then they’d knock the girl with the broken arm behind me off the fence she was sitting on. And a couple of youths also standing behind me were clinging to me and just kind of dance-cowering.
But it was a ton of fun other than that.

Same. Still going to go.
I guess it’s just the first wave of bands they announced, so it’ll probably get better with the other waves. If nothing else, it’s like the perfect time for a festival. It’s still warm out, but not so warm that people think it’s okay to just take their clothing off. Although that does still happen.
Super conflicted about this Riot Fest lineup.
but it’s wasn’t entirely on topic. Anyway, whenever this conversation rolls around, there’s usually some discussion that branches off from that about how attractive people can’t be funny. And there’s usually some horseshit elaboration about how being funny comes from pain and how (“conventionally”) attractive people live perfect lives.
And weirdly enough, this seems to go unchallenged. Because, let’s be honest with ourselves, this is about sexism far more than it’s about attractiveness. People talk about how attractive men can’t be funny, sure, but it’s almost always discussed in reference to women.
It seems that this stems from our culture dictating to men that they should categorize all women by sexual qualities. So regardless of the fact that they’ve never met and these women wouldn’t sleep with these men, they’re still thinking of them first and foremost by whether or not they could have sex. And since comedy’s an intellect form of art, they’re only able to accept it in women they see as not sexually viable. Because if they were to acknowledge that the women they’re attracted to are funny, they wouldn’t be able to reduce them to objects so easily.
Made an account just to say this:
Really poor concept for an article. So you’re telling me that a woman doesn’t usually find men funny? You mean like how the entire history of popular comedy has been completely dominated by male performers because the majority of the audience was men and men don’t usually find women funny? How it is a sudden revelation that men and women find different things funny, and that the people who talk about the things they do find funny are really likely to be their own gender? And then, what, you decide to turn it into a dating advice article half-way through, then a switch to commenting on classical poetry? What?
In particular I have to take MAJOR offense to this particular statement: “the truth is, there is no evolutionary cause for you to have to be funny.” Are you kidding me, really? Have you never, ever met a male who wasn’t really attractive, or have you just never paid attention to them? Because let me let YOU in on a little secret, those of us men who can’t get ladies through looks alone (and that would be most of us) have had a serious evolutionary cause to develop other skills. It may not always be comedy, some men go for athletic or artistic ability or the tried and true giant bank account, but many of us spend a long time developing and honing our comedic skills as part of our attempt to attract a mate, and those that are smart about it develop comedy that women appreciate.
And seriously, “men, God bless them, just aren’t funny”? So:
George Carlin
Richard Pryor
John Cleese
Lenny Bruce
Jim Gaffigan
(Just to name a few out of hundreds)
Aren’t funny? Huh, guess all of us fans must just be wrong then.
"The Internet.

I want to believe with all of my heart that this was written by a real man who was being sincere in his attempts to mansplain comedy to a female comedian’s comedic piece in a magazine issue dedicated entirely to comedy.

Two years ago, I hung out with a friend who I knew from grade/middle school who I hadn’t seen since middle school. We went to see Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World and smoked weed out of an empty Coke can. And then today he had a baby. Everything’s weird and I thought you should know.

By popular demand…
Forget it, Jake. It’s Chinatown. Although at this point, it may be Armour Square. I can never keep all these neighborhoods straight.
I’ve had a concept for a really good Chinatown joke floating around for a while and I could have sworn I already made it, but I can’t find it in my Tumblr archive. I’m tempted to repost it, but then I know someone would reply, “Nice NEW COMPLETELY FRESH joke, you butt.” And I don’t know how I could recover from being called a butt.
Tumblr Radar keeps showing a picture from a Tumblr user named moralnihilism. I can’t come up with a clever way to express how irritated I am.
Dreams really do come true.
