I have negative feelings toward this that I am too tired to explain. People with energy help me please.
While I’m busy ranting about sexism, I’ll see what I can do here.
- This is not what women are complaining about when they reference rape. There are plenty of rapists and would-be rapists out there and plenty of genuinely frightening experiences that women are subjected to.
- Behavior that doesn’t actively cause harm is not harmless. Staring accounts for a great deal of this. No, it’s not harmful, but it can make a women uncomfortable. She doesn’t know you and she doesn’t know what you’re thinking. You can’t expect a grown woman to trust a stranger for no reason beyond the fact that you’re not already raping her.
- I probably don’t have to say these, but just in case: A) no, leering isn’t a compliment. B) no, she’s not asking for it (she’s not asking to be leered at, either).
- The use of “womyn,” “cisgendered” (at least here, where it doesn’t really make sense in context), and the reference to men as “pigs” are all stereotypes that seek to show all feminists as radicals. These stereotypes caricaturize feminists, in attempt to prevent them from being taken seriously.
- The comic’s thesis is rooted in the Strawman fallacy, which claims to represent the opposing side’s argument, but intentionally makes it weak and illogical. This is, of course, fallacious, since you’re not actually arguing against an actual feminist. You’re arguing with the fake feminist character you created solely for the purposes of disproving. Feminists do not make these arguments. They make other arguments that you have not addressed.
